What’s a Supernova?
What’s a Supernova?

Manchester United’s win over AS Roma last Tuesday night wasn’t just what some English commentator might call a “thumping.” That’s more like 4-0. But 7-1? Nah, that’s out of this world, something like what an astronomer refers to as a supernova (or for all of you out there that who aren’t especially star-savvy, one unbelievably giant, red explosion). The game was supposed to be a heated second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals, a contest between two competitive teams separated by the smallest of margins. Clearly the Galileo brethren didn’t see this one coming, and who can blame them? Maybe they’ll remember to tote their telescopes over to Old Trafford next time round.
We’re used to hearing about the number seven, as in CR7 (Man U dynamo Cristiano Ronaldo, who happened to put two goals in himself), but not as the main figure in the box score. Rooney got in the act too, with a casual half-volley to make it 3-0 in the first half. No doubt Man U’s the favorites to run away with the Champions League title.

If you didn’t get a chance to catch the game, be sure to watch the highlights. Hands down, this was one of the sickest displays of offensive skills we’ve seen all year.
